OAK NAMES
THE OFFER
A web/e-mail list of private security companies, and others, operating in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere now available to those who want to find a job with them, now for £20
DETAILS
The creator of this list (regularly updated) served as a regular soldier in the British army, worked for private security companies in Iraq, E Africa and the Sudan, and with other companies across the Middle East and Libya over 19 years. Please note:
01. The list will save you many hours. And although landing a contract isn’t getting easier, emailing well targeted CVs makes all the difference.
02. The list has been hand-built, and not generated by a computer. It is also maintained in the same way and each item periodically checked.
03. The listing contains over 150 companies, most of whom are either directly involved in security and UK based or operate in a post-disaster environment. All email and web addresses are hyperlinked.
04. Please do NOT apply here for a job. To land that vital interview, buy this invaluable list to make your own approach to the companies.
If you have not worked in Iraq, Afghanistan or a similar environment before, please understand that the consequences of doing so could be serious and the responsibility must lie with you. Climatic conditions can also be challenging.
ORDERING
05. EITHER please email your order to oak-publishing@hotmail.co.uk (simple payment instructions are then e-mailed to you on receipt of your order, and you will see that payment can be by internet banking or cheque.) OR for credit and debit card payments, you can pay via PayPal. Please right-click on PayPal, left-click on 'Open in New Window' to get PayPal’s home page, and either sign up – which is very easy – or log in. Once logged in, click on the ‘Send Money’ tab. Then, where it says ‘To:’ simply enter our publisher's email, oak-publishing@hotmail.co.uk and then enter the correct amount (£20). Where it asks ‘For:’ put a spot by ‘Goods’. On completion, we automatically get an email informing us of your payment and email address details.
06. The list is a Word document and will be sent to you as an email attachment. Delivery aims to be within 24 hours of your payment clearing.
07. Full confidentiality guaranteed. Absolutely no data shared. We reserve the right to decline an order. The list is regularly updated but small inaccuracies may occur because company information constantly changes.
NOTE: If you are interested, see http://www.oakpm.co.uk/ for details about a book called In my Blood. It is about a man’s personal experiences whilst working in private security in the Middle East and Africa. Written with panache – and fascinating.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
You may find some useful information below. Failing that, please don’t hesitate to email your questions; from time to time there will be something specific to an individual.
A. “Should I apply here for a job?” No, please don’t. This often happens. Job applications will be ignored.
B. “What exactly is the deal?” Simple. When payment has been received, the list of companies (each name is supplied with a web and email address complete with link) is emailed to you as a Word doc attachment. You then make your own approach to the companies and specialist recruitment organizations that are listed. The list itself provides those critical leads and that is what you are paying for. Moreover, you have complete control and the list is yours for an unlimited period.
C. “Does the list guarantee me a job?” No. Nothing in life, as the old saying goes, is certain but death (hopefully in the comfort of your own home) and taxes.
D. “What chance do I have?” Good to very good. Given your suitability, the list significantly increases your chances of success in landing a job. (We’ve not had a single complaint or expression of disappointment since the list was launched in the autumn of 2004.)
E. “What advantages does the list give me?” Greater accuracy, and time saved. You have a consolidated list from one source which will save you many hours of combing through web-sites, and endless tapping into search engines – which all too frequently ends up as a wild goose chase.
F. “Why is the list expensive?” Because it is a very comprehensive list which includes useful subsidiary information. Secondly, it is regularly updated and checked by one individual. Thirdly, it is for serious job-seekers. If it was sold on the cheap, companies would consequently be bombarded with applications which would queer the pitch for you. Anyway, set against your first month’s pay, the outlay is really very small.
G. “How are the items on the list grouped?” Alphabetically. Of the current total items, about half are security companies, most of them British. This includes a handful of specialist recruitment companies, and it is advisable to register with them if you are looking for work in that field. The remainder consists largely of commercial companies, including those that deal with munitions clearance, who operate in post-conflict or post-disaster regions where an element of danger is present. Some have their own in-house security needs and hire personnel for these. However, their requirements will not be restricted to security posts and it is suggested you check this out because other positions can be of considerable interest. Lastly, there are web-sites that point you to further lists that are of direct relevance.
H. “Are the companies on the list reputable?” Yes, most of them categorically are, and as far as can be judged, so is the remainder. A ‘manual’ process of selection takes place – another reason why the list is expensive – rather than items merely fulfilling basic criteria fed into a computer. This avoidance of including every Tom, Dick and Harry adds quality and saves waste.
I. “Do you check my military credentials if I buy the list for a job in security ?” No. But a security company on the list that you approach probably will. (You should not apply for work with a security company unless you have served with the British armed forces – or their equivalent – or unless your experience is compatible, otherwise you will be wasting their time and yours.)
J. “Is the list available to those who have not served in the armed forces?” Yes. However, it is inevitably of more use to those who have been in the services. Some of the companies, though, are commercial companies that do not necessarily require military experience (see G above).
K. “What countries do the companies focus on?” In general, Iraq and Afghanistan. There is also quite a lot going on in the Sudan. However, most of the companies, in particular the commercial companies, will have operations in other countries.
L. “How do you know when I’ve paid if it is by internet banking?” Our account is checked daily. But please email to say you have paid. As soon as the credit appears, the list is emailed to you.
M. “Is it possible to speak to someone on the phone?” Sometimes. Please bear in mind that the list manager is often abroad. You can call 07974 408686 if you wish. However, email is much the best medium of communication.
N. “Are my records shared with anyone or any other organization?” No. Period. This is a private company. As soon as your list is sent, all records are deleted.
O. "I have another question not answered above." OK, please email it to us and we will get back to you.
